Treating Acne Scars
Fighting acne isn't an easy battle, and the battle is longer than most people think. Because as soon as your acne has cleared up you have to face another nasty side-effect of acne, scarring. How severe the scars are depends on many different factors. For example your overall health plays a role, but also your genetic make-up which determines how prone you are to scarring. Thankfully there are several options available to people who suffer from acne scars. If your scars are not that severe you may wish to try scrubbing your face twice a week. Do start slowly, a scrub once a week allows you to see whether your skin can handle the scrubbing and aren't allergic to the ingredients of the scrub. After scrubbing cleanse your skin thoroughly, and apply a mild moisturiser as final step. If scrubbing isn't enough to fade your scarring then perhaps you may want to look at microdermabrasion treatments. You could compare it to scrubbing, but a more aggressive version of it.
A professional dermatologist will look at your skin situation and advise you on whether microdermabrasion is indeed some thing that would work for your skin. Both microdermabrasion and scrubs remove the upper layers of your skin, including dead skin cells and most debris. It also stimulates cell renewal, which speeds up new skin growth. What product works best for you is really something you yourself need to find out. Testing is important. Try getting samples of products at skin care shops. Skin care products aren't cheap so it would be a shame if you spend $20 on that scrub and it turns out that your skin can't handle it. If you'd rather not use products that contain (potentially aggressive) chemicals, then perhaps you should consider natural products?
Bio-oil has been found to have a positive effect on skin scars. The product claims to contain natural ingredients that help stimulate skin renewal and soothe the skin. Reviews on Amazon are in majority positive. Again as with other products, try it out on a patch of skin that isn't visible (in case you get a rash as reaction). If you get lucky you'll find a product that works pretty quickly, though it's not uncommon to have to try several products.
Please keep in mind that acne scars do not instantly disappear,
it can take months for them to fade. Patience is a virtue in this case, but the wait is worth it.
